About the Area
The Historic market town of Morpeth is located in the heart of Northumberland and is an ideal base to explore both the coast & countryside. Morpeth is a lovely market town with a beautiful walk through arcade shopping centre and lots of craft/artisan shops and fabulous restaurants and tea rooms. You can take a stroll along the river Wansbeck or Carlisle Park on to the gatehouse and the ruins of the Castle. Try your hand at river boating, tennis or bowls. Marvel at the Turner Garden inspired by the father of English Botany William Turner who was born and educated in Morpeth. Peruse Morpeth’s regular Wednesday market or learn about Northumbrian Bagpipes in the Bagpipe Museum. Then choose something to remember your visit by at The Chantry Northumbrian Arts and Craft Gallery.
Just 15 minutes drive to the South of Morpeth you can take in the arts and culture of Newcastle City Centre. Or step back in time and visit the Roman forts amongst the dramatic windswept countriside of Hadrian’s Wall. Walk the Cheviots and stop off in Rothbury for tea.
